My Philosophy

I'm fascinated by renewable energy. Not necessarily because of the global warming stuff, but because that energy is there whether we use it or not. Rivers continue to flow, wind continues to blow, the sun continues to shine no matter what. It makes no difference to the sun whether we are converting its energy into electricity. For some reason, it really intrigues me.

I have the same fascination with people. What makes a person decide to spend 8 years in medical school and then spend the rest of their life curing people? What makes someone else work for 10 hours a day, 6 days a week building a huge corporation and amassing a fortune? What makes a young man or woman decide, “I want to be the president of the United States,” and then spend the next 25-50 years making that a reality? What makes a child of poor immigrant parents choose to break the poverty cycle, study harder than anyone else, and graduate with honors from a prestigious university? Let's face it; human beings have limitless potential. There is so much energy inside each of us, and some people have found out how to harness that energy.

Like in nature, that power is there whether we use it or not. Instead of turning that power into electricity, it can turn into our dreams. And the more I learn, the more I see my mission in life as helping to harness that energy in others.

My career plan is to become a nontraditional student advisor. There is nothing particularly glamorous or special about this job, but it is an area where I see myself as being able to do a lot of good. I happen to have education, experience, and desire to work in this field, but I could accomplish my life mission as a high school teacher, a counselor, professional clergy, or a million other positions. No matter what I'm doing, though, I want to be helping to harness the natural energy that is present in everyone.
